SOFWERX, in collaboration with USSOCOM, Central Florida Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) Chapter, and Hillsborough County Public Schools, hosted a STEM field trip focused on cybersecurity. The purpose of this STEM event was to help students understand cyberspace operations, communications and learn how hardware and software elements of cyber are interdependent.

• 90 students, all in advanced computer science classes, from three local high schools (Hillsborough High School, Plant High School, and Sumter High School) participated in hands-on radio and communications activities, soldering and completing circuits and touring the facility.

• Students heard from the USSOCOM J633, J631, AF6CF, and the Joint Communications Support Element on cyber information, radios/forms of communications, and the importance of understanding the connection of hardware through soldering to the software used daily by units like the Department of Defense Information Networks (DODIN).
